| The latest threat to burning bush shrubs is a leafhopper. What you describe is the typical "hopper burn" damage, where leaves turn purple and the leaf tips and leaf edges turn brown as a result of leafhopper feeding injury. Look for the tiny (3 mm-long) green leafhoppers on the undersides of the leaves. If you find them, or evidence of their presence, that's what is causing the purple/black blotches on the leaves. Spray neem oil or pyrethrin to control leafhoppers. Neem oil is made from the neem tree and pyrethrin from chrysanthemum; both are organic pesticides. There are also chemical pesticides available for the control of leafhoppers. |
