|I have purchased a plant called symphyandra. I was informed that it is a very rare perennial. Can you tell me anything about it?|
|Symphyandra is in the Campanula family (Campanulaceae) and there are a number of species, some with blue flowers. The most common seems to be S. hoffmannii from Yugoslavia which grows about 18" high and wide in full to part sun, blooms with pedulous white bells during the summer, and is rated hardy for zones 5-9. This one, along with others I have seen or read about, resents hot and humid summers and in fact prefers a cool location; furthermore they are reputed to be short-lived and to exhaust themselves by seed production.
The dificulties above may explain the rarity. Good luck with your new plant!
