There may very well be two plants in the container. You can check by unpotting the plant and gently trying to separate them. If the roots are intertwined you can try swishing the roots around in a bucket of water. The water usually helps untangle the roots. If you can't coax them apart, go ahead and plant it all together as one plant. Next spring you can divide the plant by taking a shovel and cutting between the two main stems. You'll end up with two plants, both with healthy roots, and all spring and summer for them to grow and fill out. Best wishes with your plant(s)!
