Most landscape trees and shrubs need about one inch of water per week, applied slowly so it percolates down and wets the entire root mass. If the soil stays too wet for too long, it drives out oxygen and can actually suffocate the roots. The first signs of overwatering are usually yellow leaves. Now that you've cut back on watering, your locust should recover. Try watering only once a week (twice if the weather is really hot). Best wishes with your Purple Robe.
