What's a good ground cover for under trees?

There are several groundcovers to consider:

Gaultheria procumbens (eastern teaberry); Mitchella repens (partridgeberry); Pachysandra; Polystichum acrostichoides (Christmas fern), Ajuga (carpet bugle), Vinca, or Polypodium virginianum (rock polypody).
