my 2 yr old japanese maple was growing so profusely, the branches were practically hanging on the floor. so i pruned the floor branches. then i

If you pruned off more than one third of the live material, you may have really stressed your maple. It's usually best to prune them while they are dormant. Pruning in the summertime can expose plant parts that were shaded and protected by other growth, which is also stressful to maples. At this point I would just continue to give the maple TLC. Don't fertilize, but do water regularly and see how it recovers. If there's branch dieback you can prune them out this winter. Hope your maple recovers soon!
