Pulling the weeds is the safest way to remove them from your flower beds. Then apply a pre-emergent such as Preen. To keep turfgrass from creeping into the beds, sink your shovel blade into the soil between the beds and the turf to sever the roots, or dig a narrow trench between the lawn and the beds. This way you can simply run your shovel down along the trench a few times during the growing season. Or, install metal or plastic edging to halt the turf. Good luck with your garden!
