| I am having a problem with my plants starting to die. I have a pink mandeville that was flourishing beautifully. I noticed one morning the leaves near the base of the plant were turning brown. Now the whole vine is looking limp. the leaves are turning more brown everyday. I water it everyday. I recently had a Pencil brush planted next to it which died also. | The ants are not the problem but I suspect overwatering is. While it's important to provide water to the roots of your plants, poorly draining soils or watering too frequently will suffocate the roots of your plants. Too much water drives out oxygen. The best way to water your plants is to water slowly so the moisture percolates down deeply. Then allow the top of the soil to dry out before watering again. Wait 3-4 days after watering and dig down into the soil. If it is still moist and inch below the surface you won't need to water for a few more days. If it is dry, it's time to water.
