There are several insect sprays but the best approach is to spray when you actually have insect damage. If you spray your landscape to kill bugs, your plants may not develop fruits (or veggies) at all because there won't be any insects to transfer pollen from the flowers. It's risky to use insecticides on herbs since you'll be consuming the foliage. I'd wait until insects become a problem and then treat just that plant with just that insects by handpicking the pests or hosing them off with a strong stream of water. Rodents are a different challenge. Setting mousetraps is the most efficient way of controlling mice and voles. Good luck with your garden!
