My purple liatris bloomed beautifully from the top downwards. Now, some of the blooms are fading. How do I deadhead this plant?

Liatris, or Gay Feather, makes excellent cut flowers for arrangements, and looks striking when it blooms in the garden. When the flowers have faded, cut the stalk down below the foliage so you won't see a stump.
