|Your Pinus syvestris columnar Scotch pine has been trimmed into a pom pom shape. It will grow between 15-25 feet tall but you can keep it in shape by trimming the candles each spring. Annual pruning will allow you to maintain control over the size of the plant. If you allow it to overgrow and then try to control its size, it can become a headache. Just plan on snapping off the candles each spring or pruning the candles back by one third to one half. If yours were a dwarf cultivar you would find the words "dwarf" or "compact" somewhere on the label. Enjoy your pom pom.
