Round Up is a non-selective contact herbicide. When you spray it on a weed it covers the top of the weed and is translocated down to the root of the weed. It does not travel in the soil and the product degrades in the presence of fresh air and sunlight. As long as you do not directly spray your trees, you can use it within about 12" of the trunk. This space will ensure no drift or overspray lands on the trunks of your trees. Hope this answers your question.
