Calla Lily Storage in So Cal - Knowledgebase Question

Question by marywseager

My Calla lillies are turning yellow and I am planning on digging the bulbs up. They have already flowered. How can they be stored in So Cal where storage temps of 50 or so degrees is not always possible? I realize I can place them in pots with soil but that is a lot of pots. Any other care instructions/suggestions during this time when they are not so pretty?

Calla lilies are native to South Africa so they're used to warm summers and warm winters. You don't need to dig your calla bulbs up and store them. When the foliage dies down just cut it off at ground level. Your callas will rest (go dormant) for 2-4 months. They will sprout back up as soon as they have rested enough.
