Nutgrass is really difficult to eradicate. If you pull it out, any little pieces of root left in the ground will sprout into a new plant. The best approach is to spot treat the nutgrass with glyphosate (Round Up). This is a vegetation killer so turfgrass will be killed, as well. Repeat applications of glyphosate will be needed but if you keep at it, you will eliminate the nutgrass. When it stops sprouting you can rake the area and overseed with bermuda or ryegrass or whatever type of turf you are growing.
