When should you prune a crepe myrtle? How do you get your crepe myrtle to become more fuller instead of thin and tall?

Crepe myrtle blooms on the new growth of the season so pruning it back in early spring, just as new growth begins should result in lots of new, flowering wood. You can prune it back again after it has finished blooming and it will grow and bloom again later in the season. You still have time this summer to prune your tree back which will help it fill out. Just prune it all over to reduce the size a bit. Next spring you can prune again, and again in mid-summer. By this time next year your crepe myrtle should be fuller and have a thicker appearance. Enjoy your garden!
