| I recently planted a clump river birch. I cut off the two outside trunks leaving only the center one. What should I do with the two short stubs left on either side of the center one. Thanks, Glen |
| Clump river birch generally has multiple trunks (clumping growth habit). You can cut the stubs down to ground level but you should expect new suckers or trunks to grow near the one you've left. It't the nature of river birches to grow into a clump rather than into a single trunked tree. Best wishes with your river birch. |
