|I have a garden that my cats were using as a little box. I have put wire over the entire garden, taken the bad spots out and worked new soil in. I know that won't be enough to plant in the future. What else can I do? I had beautiful geraniums in there but all but one have rotted at the roots. Help?|
What will be a good plant to put there when the heat is lessoned?
|I'm not sure how tainted the remaining soil might be so I'm not sure what to suggest. If it were my garden bed I would try to leach out any remaining urine by flooding the area with water every week or so the rest of the summer. Then, just before planting, work in several more inches of organic matter (compost, peat moss, etc.). Then plant some cool season annuals to see how they do. If they thrive, your problem is solved. If they won't grow well, you may need to remove all of the soil and replace it with new topsoil. Try growing pansies, primroses, snapdragons, ornamental cabbage, etc. this fall. Hope they thrive!|
