My husband recently built me a bin so i can start making my own compost. He didn't like the idea of just having a big pile of it in our yard! Does it need to have a cover? What about in the winter when it snows; should it be covered then?

You'll want easy access to your compost bin throughout the seasons so a temporary cover during heavy spring rains and winter snow is probably all you will need. You can use a plastic tarp and tie it down on all four corners or ask your husband to place a wooden cover with a piano hinge over the top so you can easily lift it up to toss in compost materials and to turn the compost. Best wishes with your compost!
