I planted 9 purple cone flowers two years ago and they have grown like crazy. This year, about half of them started to fall over.I tried to stake them but this crushed the leaves. Do you have any idea about why they are falling over and any solution. I do not want to lose them.

Purple coneflowers sometimes flop over if they grow too rapidly (too much nitrogen) or if they are reaching for the sunshine. Normally they are quite stout and sturdy. But, you can help them remain upright by supporting them with Peony rings, or sometimes they are called Peony stakes. They are available just about anywhere that sells garden supplies. They are basically a metal ring with three stakes attached that can slide anywhere around the ring. The ring is made so that you can open it and slide it around the plant, adjust it and then sink the stakes into the ground. It both supports the plant and keeps it contained.
