The problem with using common names for plants is that they often mean different plants in different parts of the country. The only purple honeysong plant I'm familiar with is Stokesia, Honey Song Purple. This is wonderful sun perennial that butterlies love. Stokes' Asters perform best in full sun and well-drained soil. It can adapt to dry or moist conditions, but cannot tolerate standing water. If this is your plant, you can try trimming it back to encourage healthy new (and hopefully) flowering stems. Best wishes with your garden!
