We have a beautiful selection of bearded iris and would like to know when to transplant them to another spot in the garden. |
You can divide and transplant iris in late August. Prepare the new bed well by digging in some compost or other organic matter. Then carefully dig the rhizomes, break or cut off each end (discard the old centers), trim the roots and leaves to about six-inches, and replant the ends of the rhizomes just beneath the soil surface. Water well, and mulch to keep the weeds down. Your iris will barely know they've been relocated and will bloom happily for you next year. |
