You can expect your magnolia to bloom at about 3 years of age. I don't know how old your tree is or when you planted it. It can sometimes take a full year for a magnolia to become established in a landscape which might explain why yours didn't bloom this year. There's not much you can do to ensure flowers next year except to make sure your tree gets adequate water this summer so it goes into the winter healthy. Good luck with your tree!
