I have a lot large stones in my yard. There are several trees in the back half. What plants would be good for growing above a lot of rock AND near/under trees? I would like to make a sort of English Garden with a modern touch. Any suggestions and help would be awesome. Thank you

Sounds like a real challenge! You'll need to amend the soil a little for best root establishment, but you can do that as you plant your annuals and perennial. Just work 2-3 inches of organic matter into the bed so the roots of your plants have a hospitable environment. The University of Tennessee has a great publication on shade-loving plants which you might find helpful: http://utextension.tennessee.e...

The list starts on page 8, but the entire publication is full of terrific information. Sun loving plants common in your region include those listed on page 11 of this publication: http://utextension.tennessee.e...

I hope you find lots of potential plants to include in your garden. Enjoy!
