Our lawn is getting deep holes with no dirt around the holes or visible bugs. The holes appear in groups near each other and spread across the lawn. The lawn is by the lake and there are uncultivated lands nearby.
We tried different pest controls based on advise from Home Depot, filled the holes, but new larger and deeper holes reappear everywhere.
Please help us eliminate this damage.

The holes in your lawn could be caused by squirrels, moles, voles, cicadas and even prairie dogs. I'm at a loss to suggest what, or how to control. I think your best option is to photgraph the holes (they may offer clues) and take the photo to your local cooperative extension office or Master Gardener Clinic. I'm not sure which county you are in so here's the NC webpage with offices listed by county: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/index....

Click on your county and you'll find the nearest office. Helpful folks there can help you identify the critters and can offer control suggestions. Best wishes with your lawn!
