|I have my strawberries on a drip water system. I have heard that strawberries will grow larger depending on the amount of water they are given. Is this true? I am growing 2 varieties of berries and they vary considerably in size.
|Strawberry plants need about one inch of water per week, and more water won't necessarily produce larger berries.
Berry size is controlled by variety - for instance, alpine strawberries are smallest, 'Benton' is a variety that produces large fruits, and 'Tri-Star' is a medium sized berry. A drip system is a terrific way to keep your strawberries watered, and one-inch per week is sufficient to keep your plants healthy and happy.
