|Turfgrass has a really difficult time growing in the shade so if the area is shady you might want to install ground cover rather than lawn. Pines drop needles which makes the ground acidic, they have surface roots so the area will be dry and these surface roots will compete with anything you grow there for moisture and nutrients. And, mature pines usually develop a few above ground roots which will make mowing difficult. If, after learning these facts you still want to try and grow turf, choose the most shade tolerant types of fescue you can find and expect to reseed every 2-3 years. Groundcover options include pachysandra, vinca minor and even daylilies. Good luck with your landscape!|
