Wish there were an easy answer! Most houseplant problems are caused by water stress - and overwatering is the number one cause of houseplant death. Sadly, the roots can rot when they remain in soggy soils and no matter what you do after the fact, the plant will die. Depending upon the type of plant, you make be able to take a cutting from a healthy stem and root it in water. If so, you can start out with a healthy new houseplant with very little effort. Rather than trying to nurse an ailing houseplant back to health, why not take several cuttings from healthy plant material and start new plants? Best wishes with your plant.
