The neighbor's tree root has cracked our driveway. We dug down on the side of the driveway and cut a very large root. We are having someone come out to replace this portion of the drive and dig out the root. Should the tree limbs overhanging the drive also be removed?

Tree branches will give you some indication of how far the roots extend so you should be able to see just where future problems might occur by looking at the branches. However, cutting off the branches will not stop the root growth underground so that won't solve future problems. About the only way to keep the roots from damaging your driveway is by digging down near the driveway and having a barrier installed. Just how deep you need to dig depends upon the type of tree and your soil type. You may want to hire a certified arborist to do an on-site evaluation. Best wishes with your landscape.
