I'm afraid that advising you about structural pest control is a little beyond my field of expertise and certainly beyond my comfort level! The best direction you can give your customer is to suggest they contact the local cooperative extension office for help with identification of the beetles. Some actually live and breed in the wood, others are just passing through and while their damage may be obvious, the pests may already be gone from the area. By having the beetles positively identified, your customer will have a better idea of how to proceed. To my knowledge there are no organic controls for wood boring insects and most insecticides for wood-boring beetles are restricted and can be used only by certified pest control operators. According to your zip code you are in Wayne County, PA. If so, here's the Penn State Extension office closest to you: 648 Park Street, Suite E, Honesdale, PA 18431, Phone: 570-253-5970 Ext 4110.
