You can prune your locust tree in late September or early October. You can limb up your tree to keep the lowest branches high enough to mow or walk under. The general rule of thumb is to never remove more than one third of the live branches on a tree so keep this in mind as you remove the lowest branches. It's also important to cut just to the branch collar so the tree can heal over the wound. Don't leave stumps when you cut and the bark will eventually grow over the area where the branches once were. Good luck with your locust tree!
