|Why are my yellow zucchini's shaped like a zucchini, but are the same color and firmness as an orange pumpkin? They are so hard I can hardly cut them with a knife.

|Uh oh! Your zucchini have been left on the vine too long and are overmature. Pick the squash when it's 5-6 inches long and the skin is still tender. If you keep the squash picked when they're still small, the vine will produce more flowers and fruits. If you leave them on you'll end up with inedible squash and the plant will put all of its energy into developing seeds instead of producing new flowers and additional squash. Compost your overmature zucchini and watch for the development of new fruits. Then pick them right away!
