I have two desert willows in my yard that are quite hardy. They both bud profusely, however only about 10 pecent of the buds turn into blossoms. Is this a soil deficiency? If so, what do you suggest?

Thank you.

The failure of flower buds to open is most often weather related so I don't think there's a problem with the soil. This is especially true for desert willows because they are native to your part of the country. As long as the trees are otherwise healthy (which they probably are if they are developing flower buds) there's really nothing you can do to increase flowering. As the trees mature a larger percentage of flowers will open for you. They are very attractive when in flower so I know how anxious you are for them to put on the best show possible. Hope next summer is their year to shine!
