I am wondering if you know anything about a type of carrot that I had recently in Afghanistan and Pakistan. When cooked it was almost red in color and wonderfully sweet. Any ideas on where I might find something similar?

There's a carrot that's great for snacking and for cooking that fits your description: Healthmaster, an F1 hybrid, available from Territorial Seed Company, P. O. Box 157, Cottage Grove, OR 97424-0061. The catalog brags that 'Healthmaster' is a premium juicer as it contains 30-35% more vitamin A than most carrots and grows to 10 inches long. It's an attractive reddish-orange color and is perfect for relish tray slicing. Write to Territorial for a catalog of their veggies.
