because of health reasons, i have not been able to maintain my flower gardends as i normally do. thus they have become overrun with weeds and are beyond repair. i was thinking about using a herbicide to kill everything off and basically start over again. is this something you would recommend? if i use a herbicide, which one would you recommend? how long would it be before i could plant again?

You can use a vegetation killer such as Round Up or you can simply allow the weeds to die over the winter months and before new weeds pop up in the spring, rake out all the dead vegetation and cover the bed with weed barrier landscape fabric. You can cut slits or X's in the weed barrier to plant your flowers. After planting you can cover over the weed barrier with decorative bark and your flower bed will remain weed free for many years to come. Enjoy your garden!
