Reddish spots are an indication of a fungal disease. It is relatively late in the season to be too concerned about the problem. Your hydrangea will begin losing its leaves soon. Next spring you can prune your hydrangeas back to remove most of the spotted stems. You can then spray it with a copper based garden fungicide to protect the new growth.
