how do you go about planting tulips etc.in a flower pot and how do you care for them,are they left outdoors during the winter.Thanks

You can plant tulips and other bulbs in containers. They will need at least 3-4 inches of potting soil beneath them so they will have root room and you can use larger, deeper containers if you are going to plant the bulbs closely together - which I think gives the best show. Bulbs should be planted twice a deep as they are wide and spaced at least an inch apart. Use potting soil in your containers, plant your bulbs and then set them in an unheated garage or shed. You can leave them out on a patio or balcony but you'll want to group the containers together and insulate them from frigid temperatures and winds by wrapping them with burlap or an old blanket.
