Insect feeding can cause distortion of the flowers. Thrips, bud worms, or other pests can damage the insides of the flower buds before the flowers open. When they do open they are often deformed and the damage makes the flowers more prone to disease. I would prune off the deformed flowers as soon as you recognize they will not open properly. This will remove potential insects and diseases from your garden.
