Fungus on willow - Knowledgebase Question

What can I do for a willow tree that gets fungus every year. It begins in mid-July when the inner leaves turn yellow and fall. Then the outer leaves turn black and fall. My local extension service said it was fungus and I should clean up diseased leaves and the tree would come back in the spring. It did, but the fungus came back again this year. Any suggestions.

I'm afraid I don't have any solutions to the fungal problem. Your extension office should be able to identify the type of fungus and suggest a control measure - if any exist. It's possible that no amount of fungicide applications can stop the particular fungus attacking your tree. I'd take a sample of the affected leaves into the extension office and ask what control measures they recommend. Wish I could offer more assistance.
