Past year was so hot - lost 30% of new schrubs.
Also used straight (no dirt) miracle-glo soil, because soil here is bad ! O.K.?

How sad to lose your shrubs to the heat. Amending your soil with potting soil is fine, but it can get expensive. You might try simply mixing in some aged manure or finished compost to improve your garden soil. If you add new organic matter each year you'll eventually improve your native soil. Good luck with your landscape!
