Winter Creeper (Euonymus Colorata) grows equally well in full sun or light shade, in rich, moist, well-draining soil. Sometimes plants are listed by their botanical rather than their common names so perhaps you can find it under the botanical name. I would choose native groundcovers for the Virginia mountains.
