pruning of vitex tree - Knowledgebase Question

tree is about 5 years old. it's never been pruned back. it has multible long branches off of the main trunk of about 10 to 12 feet long with small growth a the top of these branches. can prune these back to 5 to 7 feet if so when?

You can prune your vitex tree into shape without harm. Pruning should be done in winter, since blooms form on new wood, which will develop in the spring. Pruning anytime in January or February will prepare your vitex for healthy new growth in the spring.
