Fig trees produce best when they receive all day sunshine so choose the sunniest site possible. When you plant, dig a hole as deep and slightly wider than the nursery container. The goal is to have the tree growing at the same soil level as it was growing in the container. Unpot the tree, set it in the planting hole, then backfill with the soil you removed from the hole. Tamp it down as you go to eliminate air pockets, then water the tree throughly to help settle the soil. Water deeply once each week until fall rains take over the job for you. Best wishes with your new fig tree!
