i purchased 3 purple asters from home deport 2 & 1/2 weeks ago and they were beautiful - i prepped the flow bed area and planted them, now the flowers have all died and i pinched off all the dead buds so now everything is just green - i thought that they would bloom till frost - can you tell me what happened and give care instructions - they only were purple for a week or so - thank you

Your asters are suffering from a little transplant shock. The first thing a stressed plant will do is drop its flowers and that's what has happened with your fall asters. The good news is that they would have dropped the flowers as they aged anyway; you just hurried the process along. As a rule the flowers last about 3 weeks. As long as you keep the spent flowers removed, the plant will continue to develop flowers, right up until the first hard frost. Your asters may still bloom for you again this fall, but if not, they will be well established for next year's floral display. Enjoy!
