When and how do you prune them?

Crape myrtle develops flowers on the new growth of the season so pruning in the early spring is best. The flush of new growth should flower right on schedule. Then if you prune it again immediately after the flowers are spent, your crape myrtle may reward you with a second flush of blooms.
