It's generally recommended that your prune a live oak between late November and late December (between Thanksgiving and Christmas). In the winter months deep watering once per month or every three weeks is usually sufficient, but frequency of watering depends upon your particular soil type. Sandy soils will need more frequent water applications; clayey soils can be watered less frequently.
