|Your columbine will die down to ground level with the first frost. At that time prune away the the dead plant parts and mulch over the top of the soil with a few inches of compost or other organic matter to help suppress weeds. In the spring you'll see new stems and foliage emerge and your plants will flower later in the season. Enjoy!
