I am having a terrible time keeping petunias alive. I deadhead but they get very lanky and when I cut them back they die. This happens in pots and in the ground

I'm afraid petunias are adversely affected by your heat and humdity. In Florida petunias are best grown during the cooler seasons when they are least likely to be affected by heat, humidity and fungus. You might try the hybrid Wave series of petunias. They are bred to perform well in heat and humidity. Hope you have success with them!
