I planted pumpkins from seed, and the vines are very healthy and growing well. The blossoms are beautiful, and things seem fine except that we only have two very small pumpkins. The flowers are not producing any fruit otherwise. I fertilize with Miracle Gro every week and have been watering well. Any suggestions? |
With pumpkins, the first flowers to appear are male, and then female flowers begin to appear. This is to facilitate pollination which is accomplished by bees. If you have a large number of flowers, it is possible that there is a pollination problem. You can pollinate by hand by brushing a male flower across a female flower. If your vines have only just begun to bloom, it is possible that you still need to be a bit patient for more pumpkins. Good luck with your crop! |
