|There's nothing you need to do to prepare your mums for winter. The roots are hardy but the tops will die down with the first hard freeze. When that happens simply cut everything down to ground level and cover over the crowns of the plants with a few inches of compost or other organic mulch. In the spring new stems will emerge from the crown of the plant. Best wishes with your garden!
