Asparagus crowns are traditionally planted in the late winter/early spring. However, if you have crowns or plants now, you can put them in the ground. Asparagus beds are normally long-term beds so prepare the soil well by incorporating lots of organic matter. If you plant now, mulch over the tops of the plants when the weather turns cold. Best wishes with your asparagus.
